Setting Up Our First Home!
We Are Open!
We’re thrilled to share that the first home in our young people’s service is ready to welcome residents!
We’ve put a great deal of thought into every detail — ensuring the property meets a high standard, reflects psychologically informed principles, and still feels warm, homely, and inviting. With this first home complete, we now have a strong blueprint to guide the homes that follow.
Here’s a look at some of the things we’ve implemented and considered:
Location
Our home is in a convenient, well-connected area of Sheffield with everything our young people might need close by. There’s easy access to public transport routes to colleges, places of worship, and the city centre, along with shops, parks, gyms, and healthcare providers within walking distance.
This means our residents can enjoy independence and make the most of exploring their local community.
A Lick of Paint
We started by giving the house a fresh coat of paint — a clean slate to begin with. It won’t stay pristine forever once it’s happily lived in, but it sets the right tone.
We even brushed up our decorating skills in the process, ready to involve young people who want to learn or help when the next refresh comes around.
Young People Centred Spaces
Every space has been carefully designed with our young people in mind. The staff office is located in the garden to preserve the privacy of shared areas, giving residents space to relax and socialise freely.
There’s plenty of room to cook and eat together, watch films, take part in key work sessions, or simply unwind. Bedrooms are furnished to a high standard, and each resident receives a moving-in budget to personalise their room and make it their own.
Homely Touches
Throughout the home, we’ve displayed artwork by a local young artist to bring personality and warmth. As we settle in, we’ll add our residents’ own creations through arts and crafts activities to make the space even more personal. Calming, neutral tones have been used throughout to create a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere.
Fun and Games
There’s always something to do! From creative art projects to video games, board games, and jigsaws, young people can relax, connect, and have fun together.
We’ve even added an air hockey table and table tennis set for the garden — perfect for some friendly competition and outdoor fun.
